Where Theatre Meets Real Life
We don’t just perform theatre. We empower students, neighborhoods, and everyday people to bring their stories to life on stage. Our work lives in classrooms, communities, and wherever people need a voice.
How We Show Up
Our core programs bring transformation into classrooms and communities every day.
-
In Classrooms
We partner with schools to bring theatre directly into the classroom — from our touring play on cyberbullying and mental health, to Students Create Change, a multi-week residency where students write and perform original work. In Classrooms is generously supported by M.C. & Tom Brennan.
-
In Community
ALT works with neighborhoods and emerging artists to co-create performances that reflect community identity, experience, and pride. Through our Playwrights for Change residency, emerging playwrights work with ALT over two years to develop original plays.
Beyond the Stage: Our Other Programs
While our primary focus remains in classrooms and communities, ALT also offers additional programming that expands how and where we connect through theatre.
-
In Homes
Home Theatre invites individuals to co-create one-person performances based on their life stories, livestreamed to their living rooms and added to our growing digital story library.
-
In Workplaces
We offer theatre-based workshops that foster empathy, connection, and dialogue within professional environments. These sessions are led by our Executive Artistic Director & CEO, Matthew Gellin.
Bring ALT to Your Community
